The objective of the overall LUISA work has been to exploit the advantages of a Semantic Web Service Architecture to make richer and more flexible the processes of query and specification of learning needs in the context of Learning Management Systems and Learning Object Repositories.

The LUISA Framework that has been developed consists of a modular structured architecture with various modules:

  • Graphical User Interface
  • Negotiation Layer
  • Semantic Web Services
  • Annotation Tool
  • LOMR

Each of these modules has a precise purpose that has been detailed in several project deliverables. The software downloads allows to retrieve the source code, the executable files and the installation instructions for each module.

Through the smooth integration has been achieved a Final Prototype intended to provide the user a friendly environment where s/he can work in a direct, assisted way with the Semantic Web Service technology and the ontologies that represent the core of the LUISA project. The flexibility of LUISA ensured by the adopted service-oriented approach paves the way to different interesting future work, among which we may stress the following examples:

  • new learning scenarios based on different cognitive needs and constraints
  • enhanced user support through a more intensive use of Web 2.0 techniques
  • development of new ontologies and annotated instances.
